Desert Dash

There are a lot of great groups doing amazing work in our community! Our goal has been to not only help them out at our race series but to work with them and all of you to build up community ties. Many of our groups are small and do the work of hundreds with just a few people.

Our German Shepherd Rescue Las Vegas group needs some help! Many of the wonderful people that work in that group are also endurance athletes. They take a lot of their time to give these big dogs a second chance. As Barbara from the group just wrote to me "I just see a strong correlation between endurance athletes and our special rescue animals that need patience and understanding. We didn't become endurance athletes overnight, so folks in our world would understand about what it takes to reach your full potential."

And, check out this ad!  I know how much I loved having my big dog out on hikes with me, these shepherds are the perfect training partner! In fact in the October 2009 issue of Trail Runner magazine there is an article on trail running with your dogs and German Shepherds were rated in the top 3 as follows "Fearless, strong, intelligent, loyal and versatile, this breed can handle cold climates and makes a good family companion, but needs frequent exercise and mental stimulation. They can carry weighty packs and still have energy to run long distances." Sounds like the perfect dog!

Starting with our March 28th race, Desert Dash will be donating a portion of our race registrations to the rescue.  If you want to put a few more smiles on their faces and can bring along some Costco dog food or a Costco gift card that would be much appreciated!
