Group trail runs

Each week we will strive to get together a group for a run in some of our favourite locations.  Our goal is to offer a chance for runners to meet each week for a weekly night run and a weekend daytime run.

All of our runs are no drop!  No one will be left behind on the trails.  These runs are to help everyone get more familiar with the great trails out there, build up a community with our Desert Dash family and have FUN!

Come join us!

Join us Wednesday July 21st, 7pm for a group run at Bootleg Canyon.  Meet at the gazebo/washroom area.

Too much fun at the group runs!

RUNNING AT BOOTLEG CANYON

We love running at Bootleg Canyon and a lot of runners do trail runs out there.  When we take group runs out there, we always make sure to educate everyone about running at the park, which is primarly a mountain bike park.  Join us for a group run so we can give you the scoop on how to run the trails there but, in the meantime, here are a few hints.

1. The yellow rocks on the trails mark where a downhill mountain bike trail crosses a cross country trail.  Be aware!  Downhill bikers cannot see or hear you, it is your responsibility to be on the lookout for them...just watch for the yellow rocks.

2. If you have an option to take a gentler sloped side trail instead of a straight up and/or steep downhill trail, take the side trail.  If you can imagine, if you are down at the bottom of the trail, a biker has no way of knowing you are there, be safe and never stop in these dropped areas.

3. If you wear headphones, make sure you can hear.  If someone is coming and trying to tell you they want to pass but you can't hear them, it can become a frustrating situation.  Also, bikers that wear full face helmets cannot hear you very well, so make sure you communicate clearly.

For our early evening runs please remember to bring a headlamp and something warm to wear.  You may want to consider wearing gloves, the rocks are quite sharp out there.  The evening runs will get everyone familiar with the trails they will be on in our Moonlight Series.

The fine print!  We love to get out there and run, we want you to come and have fun with us.  But, it is your responsibility to be safe out there.  These group runs are free to anyone but you are running at your own risk!  Trail running is a great sport but running on a trail means there are rocks, cacti, desert tortoises, snakes and more.  Please use common sense, avoid the snakes!  Sorry, we have to put it in there!

4. Be courteous of your fellow biker/runner.  Most of the trail is tight singletrack with few places to pass.  If you see someone coming and you have a good spot to pull off to the side, do so.  Also, if you are running downhill, the uphill rider has the right of way.  It is very difficult to get off a bike part way up a hill and then try to get back on.  The mountain bikers are a happy bunch who do not see a lot of runners, so say hi, give a smile and everything will be happy trails for all!

And, the downhill mountain biking shuttle runs on the weekends, so there are a lot of people using the park on weekends...it's great to see!
